*This painting is inspired by the location and colour palette of Lawren Harris’ painting Black Court. The area, lost in the reconstruction after the great Halifax fire was known as Africaville. While Harris saw this area as poor slums for black workers, it has a rich history and a point of interested in black Canadian cultural history.
